Duolingo Stories

From Duolingo Wiki
The story, Je veux un Chien (French course)

Duolingo Stories are short, interactive narratives used on Duolingo to help learners improve their reading and listening comprehension. They were first introduced in 2019 (beta) and are now available in over 15 languages.

These stories use real characters from the Duolingo world — like Bea, Junior, Eddy, Lily, Vikram, and Lin ranging from humorous dialogues to emotional encounters. Every story reinforces vocabulary and grammar taught in regular lessons, but with added context and engagement.

Features[edit | edit source]

  • Interactive Reading: Users follow a story and answer questions based on the content.
  • Voice Acting: Stories are fully voiced to support listening comprehension.
  • XP Rewards: Completing a story usually gives 5–14 XP depending on the language and level.
  • Level System: Stories are grouped by crown levels (1–5), just like regular skills.
  • Reinforcement: The vocabulary aligns with what's taught in the main skill tree.
